The obsession with filling our lives with objectives, reaching goals and meeting expectations, our own and others, personal and professional, affects all of us but especially the youngest, who are trapped in the permanent demands of competition. Maider Jiménez addresses the uncertainty caused by future prospects in her series Aquí ninguén fala diso, a project selected from the BFF 2022 Meeting of Photography Schools.

Her city of origin, to which she returns at a moment of vital change, is for her synonymous with monotony, a feeling that she condenses in the vision of a wall. The Wall. Two kilometres of stone and metal seven metres high that have always been there, blocking the view of the horizon, which she now sees with new eyes. The wall is a metaphor to express those moments of doubt and frustration, but also as a symbol of the change of direction, since these times of pause often give us the necessary perspective to reflect and make decisions. As the philosopher Remedios Zafra, author of El entusiasmo, one of the essays that has best reflected the anxiety of creative work, says, “There is no thought without time to think”.

Maider Jimenez was born in Vitoria-Gasteiz in 1992. She holds a degree in Illustration from the Vitoria-Gasteiz School of Art and Design and a master’s degree in Photographic Creation from Lens School of Visual Arts. In 2011 she received the Total Design grant from IED Madrid and in 2020 was shortlisted for the MAPA scholarship of the Lens School. Her work has been exhibited in venues and institutions such as Control Club (London), The Hive (London), IMTA Jiutepec (Mexico), Centro Cultural Montehermoso (Vitoria-Gasteiz), Detrás do Marco (Vigo) and Zuloa (Vitoria-Gasteiz). Her work has been published in magazines such as Esto es un cuerpo, If you Leave, ERRR Magazine and Anormalmag. She has also participated in publications such as El Monstruo del Lago Ness by Colectivo Comando Apache and Las simples cosas together with Laura C. Vela, Helena Goñi and Laia Sabaté.
