Txikiteroak A PHOTO ESSAY BY YOSIGO Txikiteros have spent their whole lives doing what has become so fashionable today through facebook and twitter. Txikiteo (a specifically Basque kind of bar crawl) has been a form of communication, leisure and entertainment. This way of socialising also has its customs, norms and rites, and it is mainly our elders who keep this social network alive. We understand these customs, which tend to be called localism, as an open and integrating phenomenon. That is why, in a festival where international photographers of repute show us their works and their vision of old age, we decided to portray a practice characteristic of older folk from these parts. And we looked for an original way of showing this work. The photographs will be published as a calendar so that, keeping true to the spirit of The balde and GETXOPHOTO, this project will be able to stay alive and endure, with a presence in our day to day on the walls of bars, houses, shops, offices… Yosigo is the artistic name of photographer Jose Javier Serrano (1981), from Donosti. Through the way he selects objects, scenery, composition and colour, he has achieved what we call a personal view. Author of various exhibitions and books that include 0607, Kresala, Prater and Mapa de Memoria. His works have adorned the covers of prestigious magazines such as Colors, Wired and Homeland. Yosigo photographed a bunch of txikiteros from Algorta and Bilbao in August 2011.
